1. Information We Collect
a. Website Visitors
- You may browse most of our website without providing personal data.
- If you register for an account, forum, or newsletter, we collect the information you provide (such as name, email, and login credentials).
- We use cookies and analytics tools to measure traffic and improve performance. This may include IP addresses, cookie identifiers, and activity on our site. You can opt out via DAA or NAI.
b. Product Users
What each product collects is listed in its annex: TechSuite and Lantern.
c. Billing Information
We do not store payment card details. All billing is securely processed by Stripe, a PCI-compliant provider.
d. Support Interactions
If you contact us for support, we may collect additional logs, screenshots, or communications you provide. These may be stored to improve service and track recurring issues.
2. How We Use Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve our products
- Detect and prevent misuse or unauthorized access
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
- Communicate with you about updates, support, and account matters
- Analyze usage patterns to understand how our products are applied in real environments
- Enhance our products with new features, including AI-powered diagnostics
- Create anonymized, aggregated reports about industry trends (e.g., hardware failure rates, malware trends). Any public reports will not include personal or customer-identifiable data.
3. Use of AI
We may use diagnostic and usage data with AI systems to run and improve our products. Where we can, we use it in anonymized or aggregated form. Examples include:
- Summarizing logs to speed up technician workflows
- Helping our staff debug, build and support our products
We use hosted AI models provided by other companies. We do not train AI models ourselves.
TechSuite can also write an AI summary of a report, if the shop turns that feature on. To do that, TechSuite sends the report’s title, the customer and ticket labels and notes the technician typed, and the computer details in the report to an AI model hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS Bedrock). AI summaries can be wrong, and the shop should check them before relying on them.
We do not use customer content outside the scope of our products, and we do not sell data for AI training unrelated to them.
4. Sharing of Information
- We do not sell or rent your personal data.
- We may share anonymized, aggregated data for research or industry reporting.
- We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
- We may share limited data with service providers who process it on our behalf under confidentiality obligations. We currently use:
- Hatchbox and AWS for hosting and storage, and AWS Bedrock for TechSuite’s AI summaries
- Stripe for billing
- Postmark for email
- AppSignal for error monitoring
- Plausible for website analytics
- Cloudflare for website hosting and bot protection at sign-up
- Anthropic, for AI tools our staff use to debug, build and support our products
- We may change providers at any time.
5. Data Storage, Transfers, and Security
- Your information may be stored and processed in the United States or other countries where Sacramento Labs or its service providers operate.
- We apply reasonable technical, administrative, and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption at rest and in transit, and internal access controls so only employees or contractors with a need-to-know basis can access user data.
6. Data Retention and Your Choices
- We keep diagnostic data, reports, logs and account information until they are deleted. We do not delete them on a schedule, except for some short-lived log files, which we delete after a short time.
- You may request export or deletion of your account, logs, or other data by contacting us, and we will, unless the law requires us to keep it.
- You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link provided.
7. Security and Privacy Practices
We strive to follow cybersecurity and privacy best practices. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to access, correct, or delete your information.
8. Children’s Privacy
Our products are intended for professional use and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from individuals under 16. If you believe such data has been collected, please contact us.

TechSuite is used by repair shops on computers they have been asked to work on. The shop decides which tools to run and which reports to keep, and is in charge of the information in them. Reports can include the customer and ticket labels and notes a technician types. If a shop runs TechSuite through Lantern, see the Lantern annex.

Annex: Lantern
Lantern is a small program, called the agent, that a repair shop or other IT service provider installs on its customers’ computers. It runs health checks, shows the customer a message in the shop’s name when it finds a problem, and offers a “Request Service” button that sends a message to the shop. Two groups of people are involved: the shops that use Lantern, and the shop’s customers whose computers have the agent.
If you are a shop’s customer and you found this page because Lantern is on your computer: your repair shop installed it, and your repair shop decides how it is used. This annex lists what it collects and who sees it.
Who is responsible for what
- The shop is in charge of its customers’ information. The shop chooses to install the agent, sees what it reports, and decides what to do with it. For that information, the shop is the controller (the one in charge of the data) and Sacramento Labs is the processor (we handle it on the shop’s behalf, under our Lantern Terms of Service).
- We are in charge of our own side. That means a shop’s own account (its name, staff, sign-in details and billing), our records of how Lantern is used and kept secure, and the log files we collect to fix problems.
- Ask the shop first. To see, correct or delete your information, or to have Lantern removed from your computer, ask your repair shop. If you cannot reach the shop, write to us and we will help.
- If you did not agree to it. If you think Lantern was put on your computer without your permission, write to us at [email protected]. We will look into it and can switch the agent off.
What the agent collects
The agent checks in with our servers regularly. It reports:
- Computer details: the computer’s name, type, operating system, processor, memory and main drive
- The last signed-in user: the account name, which may be a real name
- Health and security status: results of its health checks, such as antivirus status, drive health, crashes, disk encryption, free space and battery health, and whether remote access software is running. Our documentation lists the current checks.
- Technical details: the agent’s version, the IP address it connects from, and a random device ID we give each computer
When a customer enters contact details at install, or uses Request Service, we receive what they type: their name, phone number, email address and message.
The agent does not collect serial numbers or hardware IDs, lists of installed software or running programs, the contents of files, keystrokes, browsing history, screenshots or location. It has no remote access or remote control feature. It only calls out to our servers.
Running TechSuite and collecting logs
- TechSuite. A shop can connect Lantern to TechSuite, our repair software, and schedule it to run on its customers’ Windows computers. It runs with administrator rights, without anyone at the keyboard. The report goes to the shop’s TechSuite account and is covered by the TechSuite annex. Lantern learns only whether the run worked. If the shop turns on TechSuite’s AI summaries, a summary may be written by an AI model hosted on Amazon Web Services. To make scheduled runs possible, the installer sets up a helper with administrator rights on Windows. It does nothing unless the shop turns the feature on.
- Log files. To fix problems, our staff can ask the agent to send us its log files, without telling the shop. During testing we may collect them from every agent. Logs can include computer and user names. We delete the ones we store after about a month.
Who sees the information
- The shop. It sees everything above in its Lantern dashboard, in emails we send it, and in any webhooks it sets up to its own systems, such as a help desk system or Slack. Once information reaches those systems, the shop is responsible for it.
- Sacramento Labs. Our staff and contractors see it only as needed to run, secure and support Lantern.
- Our service providers. The companies listed in Section 4 that provide hosting, email, error monitoring and AI tools. Stripe handles billing for shops only and does not receive information about a shop’s customers.
- No one else. We do not sell this information, use it for advertising, or contact a shop’s customers to market to them. We may disclose it if the law requires, as described in Section 4.
How we use it, and how long we keep it
We use the information to run Lantern for the shop, keep it working and secure, and help the shop when it asks for support. Our staff use AI tools to debug, build, improve and support Lantern. As described in Sections 2 and 3, we may also use it in anonymized or aggregated form to improve Lantern.
We keep it until it is deleted, apart from log files (see above). We do not delete it on a schedule, and that includes after a shop cancels. A shop can ask us to export or delete its information, and we will, unless the law requires us to keep it. Section 5 explains where information is stored and processed.
If a shop stops using Lantern
If a shop deactivates a computer, the agent switches itself off, though its files may stay on the computer. If a shop’s paid plan ends, its computers go to sleep: the agent hides itself, sends no health readings and shows the customer nothing. It stays installed and keeps checking in and updating, so it can wake up if the shop comes back. A scheduled TechSuite run continues until the shop disconnects TechSuite. To have Lantern removed, ask your repair shop.
