Lantern Terms of Service
The terms you agree to by signing up for or using Lantern.
Last updated: October 15, 2026
This agreement covers Lantern. See also our Privacy Policy, including the Lantern annex.
At a glance
- Who this is for. Repair shops, managed service providers and other businesses, not personal use.
- It is a subscription. You pay monthly or yearly, based on how many computers you use Lantern on. A Free plan is available.
- Your customers’ computers are your responsibility. You must have the right to install Lantern on each one, tell your customers what it does, and get their consent where the law requires it.
- Lantern can run TechSuite on those computers, with administrator rights, if you schedule it. You are responsible for what it does.
- Your customers’ information is yours. You decide how it is used. We handle it on your behalf.
- Lantern is a helper, not a guarantee. It is provided “as is.” We are not responsible for data loss, downtime or compliance failures.
- Either of us can end this. You can cancel at any time. We may terminate your account at any time.
- Disputes go to binding arbitration in Sacramento, California, and you waive any right to bring or join class actions.
- Our liability is capped at the greater of what you paid us for Lantern in the last 12 months or $25.
1. Acceptance of Agreement
By signing up for Lantern, installing the agent, or using the Dashboard, you agree to this agreement with Sacramento Labs, LLC, doing business as RepairTech, Inc. (“we,” “us,” or “our”). If you sign up for a business, you confirm you can bind it. If you do not agree, do not use Lantern.
2. Words We Use
- Shop or you means the business that signs up for Lantern.
- Customer means a person whose computer has the agent on it.
- agent means the Lantern software on a Customer’s computer.
- Device means a computer that has the agent.
- Dashboard means the Lantern website where you manage your account and Devices.
- Request Service means the button and form a Customer uses to message you.
- TechSuite means our TechSuite software for Windows.
- Customer Data means what the agent and Request Service collect about Customers and their Devices, plus contact details you give us for them. The Lantern annex lists what the agent collects.
- Shop Data means information about your own account: your name, staff, sign-in details, branding and billing.
3. The Service and License
Lantern has two parts: the Dashboard and the agent. We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Dashboard for your repair or managed service business, to install the agent on Devices within your plan, and to let your Customers run it. You may include Lantern in your service contracts with Customers.
You may not:
- Resell it on its own. Resell, rent or lease Lantern by itself, or offer it as a separate product.
- Dodge the limits. Exceed your Device limit, or open more than one account to avoid it.
- Take it apart. Copy, change or take apart the agent or Dashboard, or remove its license checks or security features.
- Hide it. Hide or disguise the agent, or stop it from showing its normal windows and messages.
- Misuse it. Use Lantern to break the law, spread malware or interfere with the service.
4. Plans, Fees and Billing
- Plans. Our pricing page lists the plans, prices and Device limits. The Free plan has no fee and no custom branding.
- Billing. Paid plans are billed in advance, by card, through Stripe. They renew automatically until you cancel, and you authorize us to charge your card each time. The Dashboard shows the cost and timing before you confirm a plan change.
- Failed payments. Your service keeps running while the payment processor retries. If payment still fails, your subscription ends and Section 15 applies.
- Taxes. Fees do not include taxes. You are responsible for any that apply to you.
- Refunds. We do not refund fees, but we may give a refund in a particular case.
- Changes. We may change prices with at least 30 days’ notice, typically by email or in the Dashboard. We may change this agreement at any time by posting the new version. If you keep using Lantern after that, you accept the change.
5. Devices and the Device Limit
Your plan sets how many Devices you can have. A Device counts until you deactivate it. At the limit, we turn away new installs and email you. If your plan shrinks below your number of Devices, we may stop serving some of them, and we choose which.
6. Your Responsibilities for Customer Computers
Lantern puts software on other people’s computers, and the duties that come with that are yours. You are solely responsible for how you use Lantern, including but not limited to:
- The right to install. Install the agent only on a computer you own or whose owner has agreed, and keep a record. Your service contract with the Customer can be that record. For a business computer, get agreement from someone with authority. Never install it on a child’s computer.
- Notice and consent. Before or when you install the agent, tell the Customer in plain words what it does and collects, who sees the information, how long you keep it, and how to ask you to remove it. Include that it installs an updater that keeps it current and, on Windows, a helper that can run TechSuite, both with administrator rights. You can start from the Lantern annex and put this in your service contract. Our Privacy Policy does not replace your notice. Find out whether any law also requires the Customer’s consent, and keep proof of it. Without it, do not install.
- No spying. Do not use Lantern to watch or track a person, or on a computer you have no right to be on.
- Removal. If a Customer asks you to remove the agent, or you stop servicing them, deactivate their Device in the Dashboard. Section 15 explains what that does. Do this, and disconnect TechSuite, before your paid plan ends.
- Customer requests. If a Customer asks to see, correct or delete their information, you answer, and we will help. If a Customer asks us, we will pass it to you.
- Messages and settings. Read and answer Request Service messages, keep contact details accurate, and own the pop-ups your settings show in your shop’s name. Request Service is not an emergency line. Tell Customers not to type passwords, card numbers or health information into it.
- The law. Follow all laws that apply to you and your use of Lantern, including privacy, computer access, consumer protection and contact laws. Do not use Lantern to handle regulated data such as health or card data.
- Your account. Keep your sign-in details and webhook addresses private, and tell us right away if someone else has them.
- Scheduled TechSuite runs. If you connect TechSuite to Lantern and schedule a procedure (a saved set of TechSuite tools), Lantern runs TechSuite on your Customers’ Windows computers. It runs with administrator rights, on your schedule, with no one needing to be present. Procedures can change a computer. You are solely responsible for choosing them, getting your Customer’s permission, making sure backups exist, and the results. TechSuite is covered by the TechSuite Terms of Service and the TechSuite annex. If both agreements apply to a scheduled run, our total liability for it under the two together is capped at the greater of what you paid us for TechSuite and Lantern in the 12 months before the event, or $25.
7. Your Customers’ Data
- Roles. You decide to install the agent and what to do with the information it reports. For Customer Data, you are the controller (the one in charge of the data, sometimes called the “business”) and we are your processor (sometimes called the “service provider”). We handle it on your behalf. We remain in charge of Shop Data, our own security and usage records, the agent log files we collect to fix problems, and the anonymized data described below. This section and the Lantern annex are all of our terms on Customer Data. We do not offer a separate data processing addendum.
- What we do with it. We use Customer Data only to provide, secure, support, debug and improve Lantern, and our staff use AI tools to help. You also allow us to create anonymized or aggregated data that does not identify you, your Customers or their computers, and to use it to improve Lantern and make industry reports. We do not sell Customer Data.
- Your promises. You promise that you have the legal right, and any permission the law requires, to collect Customer Data, send it to us, and have us handle it as this agreement says. What you do with it afterward is your responsibility, including anything you send to other systems through webhooks, Slack, Zapier or email.
- Our people and providers. Only staff and contractors who need access can see Customer Data, and they are bound by confidentiality. We use other companies to host Lantern, send our emails and help us run it. Section 4 of our Privacy Policy lists them. They must protect Customer Data, and we may change them at any time without notice to you.
- Security and incidents. We use encryption at rest and in transit and access controls, as described in our Privacy Policy. No system is perfectly secure. If we confirm that Customer Data was accessed or disclosed without permission, we will tell you as soon as we reasonably can, and within 96 hours at most.
- Keeping and deleting. We keep Customer Data and Shop Data until it is deleted, including after your plan ends or your account closes. You can email us to export or delete it at any time, and we will, unless the law requires us to keep it. The one exception is agent log files. We may collect them to fix problems, without telling you. They can include computer and user names, and we delete the ones we store after about a month.
- Customers who cannot reach you. If a Customer contacts us and cannot reach you, for example because your shop has closed, we will respond to the Customer ourselves. That may include deactivating their Device.
- Authorities. If a court or government agency asks us for Customer Data, we will tell you first, unless the law forbids it or someone’s safety is at risk.
8. Your Branding and What Customers See
You give us a license to use your shop’s name, logo, contact details and colors, as you enter them in the Dashboard, to build your installer and show to your Customers. You promise you have the right to do so. Paid plans can use your logo, icons and colors. On the Free plan, the agent shows your name and contact details with Lantern’s standard look, which includes the Lantern name and logo.
The agent also appears as “Lantern,” from Sacramento Labs, in places the Customer’s computer controls, such as its list of installed programs. A Customer who looks there may find our name.
9. Integrations and Third Parties
Lantern can send information to services you choose, such as a help desk system, Slack or Zapier. Those services have their own terms, and you are responsible for your use of them. We are also not responsible for how third-party software on a Customer’s computer behaves, including if it blocks, flags or removes the agent.
10. Ownership
Lantern is licensed, not sold. We keep all rights, title and interest in the Dashboard and the agent, including updates and derivative works. You keep your rights in your Shop Data and Customer Data, subject to Sections 7 and 8.
If you give us feedback, suggestions or feature requests, you give us a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to use them in Lantern or our other products without restriction.
11. Updates and Modifications
The agent updates itself automatically. You agree that we may do this on your Customers’ computers. We may require updates for you to keep using Lantern, and we may add, change or remove features at any time. Features labeled “beta,” “preview” or “experimental” are provided as-is, may be unreliable, and may change or be removed at any time.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
Lantern and its documentation are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy or reliability of results.
You acknowledge:
- A helper, not a safeguard. Lantern is not a security product, an antivirus, a backup or a substitute for professional judgment.
- Imperfect checks. Lantern runs a limited set of checks. They can be wrong, late or unavailable. If Lantern finds no problem, that does not mean there is none, and it can report a problem that does not exist, including a warning about remote access software.
- Delays. Agents report on a schedule. The Dashboard may not show what is happening right now, and Request Service messages and scheduled TechSuite runs may be delayed or fail.
- Safety. Do not use Lantern where failure could cause injury or severe damage, such as aviation, hospitals, defense or nuclear settings.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- No indirect damages. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, even if we were warned they were possible.
- No third-party claims. We are not liable for third-party claims made against you by your Customers or anyone else, including claims about installing the agent, collecting information, or a problem Lantern missed or wrongly reported.
- A cap. Our total liability for all claims together is capped at the greater of the fees you paid for Lantern in the 12 months before the event that caused the claim, or $25.
- What the law allows. None of this limits liability for fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence or violations of law, or any other liability the law does not let us limit.
14. Indemnification
You agree to defend us, and our officers, employees and contractors, against any claim, and to pay for any resulting damages or expenses, when the claim arises out of:
- Installing without the right. Your installing the agent without the right or permission to do so, or without the notices and consents the law requires
- Spying. Your use of Lantern to watch or track a person
- TechSuite runs. Anything a scheduled TechSuite run does to a Customer’s computer or data
- Your content and data. Your branding, anything you put in the Dashboard, and your handling of Customer Data, including what you send to other systems
- Breaking the law. Your failure to comply with applicable laws or regulations
15. Term, Cancellation and Termination
- You can cancel. You can cancel a paid plan in the Dashboard at any time. It runs to the end of the period you have paid for. The Free plan does not need to be canceled. To stop using it, deactivate your Devices.
- We can terminate. We may terminate this agreement or suspend your account at any time, with or without cause. The refund rule in Section 4 applies to fees you have already paid. We may suspend your account right away, including by switching off Devices, if we think you are misusing Lantern or breaking Section 6. If you see Lantern used to watch or track someone, tell us at the email address in Section 22.
- When a paid plan ends. A paid plan ends if you cancel it, or if you stop paying and payment still fails after the retries in Section 4. Then your Devices go to sleep. We may instead move you to the Free plan, or deactivate your Devices, at our discretion.
- Sleeping Devices. A sleeping agent hides itself, sends no health readings and shows your Customer nothing. It stays installed and keeps checking in and updating, so it can wake up if you come back. Scheduled TechSuite runs continue until you disconnect TechSuite. Your Dashboard is limited until you reactivate a plan. Nothing is deleted.
- Removing the agent. Deactivating a Device switches the agent off at its next check-in, but does not delete its files. We can help you remove them completely. Deactivate each Device before your plan ends, because your Dashboard is limited afterward. If your plan has ended and you have not, you must still make sure the agent is removed, and we will help if you ask.
- After termination. You must stop using Lantern. Section 7 explains what happens to your data. Sections that by their nature should survive do, including unpaid fees, the removal duty above, and Sections 6, 7, 10 and 12 to 14, 19, 20 and 21.
16. Service Availability
We do not guarantee that Lantern will be available at all times or without interruption. Maintenance, updates, outages and issues beyond our control can interrupt it. We give support by email, with no promise of a response time.
17. Export Control
You agree to comply with all applicable U.S. export control and sanctions laws. You may not use or access Lantern if you are located in an embargoed country or are a prohibited person under U.S. law.
18. Force Majeure
We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including natural disasters, labor disputes, internet outages or government actions.
19. Governing Law and Arbitration
This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflicts-of-law principles.
You and we will resolve all disputes exclusively by binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, held in Sacramento County, California.
You agree to waive any right to a jury trial or to participate in class, collective, or representative actions.
20. No Reliance
You are not relying on any statements, representations or warranties not set out in this agreement. Marketing materials, demonstrations and verbal statements are non-binding.
21. Miscellaneous
- Whole agreement. This agreement, together with our Privacy Policy, is the entire agreement between you and us regarding Lantern.
- Customers. Your Customers are not parties to this agreement and have no legal rights under it.
- Severability. If any provision is found invalid, the rest remains enforceable.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce a right does not waive it.
- Assignment. You may not assign this agreement without our written consent. We may assign it to a buyer of our business.
- Notices. We may send notices to the email address on your account, so keep it current. Send notices to us at the email address in Section 22. Email notices count as received one day after they are sent.
- Language. This agreement is written in English. If a translation differs, the English version controls.
