Recently, we had the good fortune to visit Kyle Wiens over at the iFixit headquarters. We got to tour the location and learn about the most recent developments at iFixit. Check out the interview below between Kyle and Ian.

iFixit Pro

Kyle talked to us about his company’s new iFixit Pro program that was created to help techs get access to great resources and get even more connected to the community at large. iFixit Pro is a complete, open source repair business solution: marketing, technical training, and business development.

Digital Right to Repair Coalition

He also shared his insights into iFixit’s recent work with the Digital Right to Repair Coalition, which is a group of consumers, environmental organizations, digital advocacy groups, and aftermarket retailers. The coalition’s mission is to fight for legislation focused on repairability and freedom to maintain, innovate, and improve the products we own and use.

iFixit is a Kiva Zip Trustee

In addition to all of the already fantastic work iFixit does for the repair community, Kyle told us about their experimentation with Kiva Zip in order to help people obtain financing for launching their own repair company. Kiva Zip allows for aspiring business owners to launch a crowdfunding campaign in order to raise the seed money required for starting a small venture.

Big thanks to iFixit for letting us invade their HQ and to Kyle for graciously allowing us to pick his brain! Cheers!
